All swimmers are provided an opportunity to compete during the summer season. The CSL sponsors two levels of competition each week: a "competitive" Saturday morning meet and a "developmental" Wednesday evening meet.
Swimmers compete by gender and age in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly: 8 and under; 9-10; 11-12; 13-14; 15-18.
Saturday Meets
Saturday morning meets are scored and used to determine the team standings within the league.
The coach selects the Saturday meet participants and has full discretion over entries. Each team may enter three swimmers per event. Each swimmer is limited to three individual entries, excluding relays.
Sometimes, the host team will offer exhibition events/heats. Exhibition events provide an opportunity for younger swimmers to compete. Their times are recorded but they cannot score points for the team.
Swimmers for Saturday meets are notified a couple days ahead of time.
Attendance at Saturday meets by those not swimming is encouraged! Attendance helps team spirit and earns points for your “swim school.”
Wednesday Meets
Wednesday evening “developmental” meets are not scored and are open to all swimmers. They are a great opportunity to compete, improve times, and try new strokes.
Swimmers may enter up to three individual events. However, if a swimmer swam in the previous Saturday meet and placed first, second, or third in an individual event, she would be ineligible to compete in the same event at the following Wednesday meet. (For example, if Mary swam freestyle on Saturday and placed 1st, she would be ineligible to swim freestyle at the next Wednesday meet. However, if Mary swam backstroke on Saturday and placed 4th, she could swim backstroke in the following Wednesday meet.)
